Robson Road

(2025)

Back

One morning I was on the bus to work, and an old lady asked me for directions. I tried to help but she didn’t understand me. She got off at Robson Road, still lost, but I didn’t care. I was inspired.

That evening I drew maps to explain the directions to the old lady, trying different angles and different formats. I stayed up all night drawing, but none of the maps were quite right.

Then I wrote the story of the old lady on the bus, trying different angles and different formats, but none of them were quite right. I collated the 16 maps and 16 stories into a booklet, with perforated pages so each map and story can be individually distributed.

The truth of what happened that morning is scattered between all the stories, and the perfect map is scattered between all the maps. None of the stories are totally true, and none of the maps are totally efficient, but when I see the old lady again I’ll ask her which one she prefers.
